The Somerset Energy Innovation Centre is an impressive, high profile, multi occupancy building destined to house many of the company’s working on the new Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset.
The hub of the building is its restaurant meeting area.
Environments for Business were asked to design and visualise the seating area and address the acoustic issues inherent in the space.
The design team used the full height windows to maximum effect by using a mixture of sit-stand curved, standard, and coffee height tables; this provided a mixed landscape able to cope with the different needs of the centres occupants and visitors alike.
The acoustic issues were effectively solved using a ceiling hung, locally manufactured, sustainable acoustic panel. Manufactured from natural fibres the panels help to reduce background noise and improve speech intelligibility, thereby creating a more productive space.
The transformation within the space was remarkable. We created a welcoming, calm, and friendly environment which was ideal as both a breakout and meeting venue.
The use of locally themed artwork around the curved walls at high level completed the interiors scheme. Where possible we aim to support local businesses, and could do so successfully in this instance.
