The Brief

Tangier Central forms two interconnected office buildings in Taunton Town Centre with a total area of 66,000 square feet. Originally spec-built in the early 1990’s it was looking tired and dated. It was no longer doing justice to its stunning surroundings and views of the River Tone and French Weir Park.

The brief was to breathe new life into the building on vacation of the previous tenant who had occupied it for 25 years, and refurbish it to “big city” standards to attract new tenants. This was to include creating blank canvasses with the office space and to provide a front of house and WC facilities in a modern, bright and appealing way.

The Visualisation

The office space was easy – neutral colours and new LED lighting to provide a bright and clean space where anyone’s imagination for a potential office could be realised. The front of house was something the design team put heart and soul into; researching into a plethora of finishes and options they crafted various proposals including Barrisol light boxes, V-Greet automated receptionist, new glass and walnut balustrading and what we feel are the best WC facilities in Somerset.

The Realisation

The owners understood the vision and gave the go ahead. The outcome is something which every potential tenant remarks upon as soon as they enter the premises. The Barrisol lighting gives the feeling of entering an atrium rather than an enclosed space. The balustrade lifted the staircase from being an old-fashioned affair to something one cannot help but stroke. The WC facilities incorporated a modern theme of finishes complete with glass cubicle doors, motion sensor taps and flush detail, and water less urinals to reflect the need to limit impact on the environment. Rarely has a work space had such universal appeal to all visitors to the premises.
